Piedmont Well Service covers 11 Maryland counties: Carroll, Frederick, Howard, Baltimore, Montgomery, Washington, Anne Arundel, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester. They sit on three very different kinds of ground, and each page below explains what that means for your well.
Piedmont counties
Fractured crystalline rock: wells find water in cracks, not sand.
West of the Catoctins
Limestone valley country, with karst and hard water.
Coastal Plain
Layered sands and clays: shallow and deep aquifers stacked like pages.
120 ftWhy the ground matters
Same pump, different water.
Fractured crystalline rock tends to give soft, sometimes acidic water and can carry radon. Limestone gives hard water and a quick path for surface contamination. Coastal Plain sand often brings iron, and shallow wells can pick up nitrate. Knowing the ground is half the diagnosis.
